What Are The Dangers Linked To Plastic Surgery And How To Avoid ...

As the years go by, many women become unhappy with their appearance. This can be seen with the number of plastic surgery cases the doctors see every year. While there are cases of an injury that will require some reconstructive surgeries, it does seem that more are done to change the way a person looks.

Women especially seem to be geared towards having the surgery done. Many are trying to reclaim their body from their youth. Others just were never happy with one part of their body or the other and have decided to get what they want. Tummy tucks, breast augmentation and face lifts are probably the most popular with older women. Rhinoplasty is very common among younger women.

Breast augmentation does seem to be the most desired. Many women want to have just a little larger cup size, while some just want less. Also, there are those that just need them lifted. It is not a complicated operation by any means, but as with any procedure, there are a number of risks involved.

Most of the procedures done will cause a certain amount of numbness around the affected area. However, this should only last for a very short period of time. Anytime that an incision is made in the skin there will be some tissue death, otherwise known as necrosis. Another common occurrence is seroma, which is a collection of watery body fluids. This is so common that most doctors will insert a tube for drainage during the operation.

When a person has a procedure such as this done, they are healthy, so very few infections will occur. However, if it does happen, it should be reported to the doctor immediately. Infection can spread very quickly and be life threatening.

There are several ways that patients can reduce their risks when doing these elective surgeries. First and foremost find a well qualified doctor. Make certain that they are licensed to do the procedure that is being done. Even if it will be done in the doctor?s office as an out-patient, check with the local hospital to see if they have the credentials to use their facilities. Check with the American Medical Association to see if they are board certified for doing the procedure.

Some procedures may have a higher benefit to risk ratio. Many plastic surgery procedures are only a temporary fix and if so, they probably do not last long enough to warrant the risks involved. They should never be done if the patient is not completely healthy. This can only add to risks involved and can cause very unwanted outcomes.
