LED bulbs weren't that great a few years ago, but they've gotten a lot better. The Cree Warm White is inexpensive at $13, emits a light quite similar to an incandescent bulb, throws light in every direction (unlike older LED lights), and even stays cool enough to touch. Plus, it's very efficient and doesn't have a lot of the problems that CFL bulbs do.
